in the beginning:
Foundations of faith

September 11, 2022 - May 28, 2023

The word of God begins like this: "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." Of all the foundational concepts in the Book of Genesis, this is surely the most important. All our understanding of God begins with this key idea; God created everything. Genesis establishes the core ideas upon which the entire story of Jesus is built. Our study of this book will open our eyes to the amazing plan of the Lord and our role within it.

DREAMS OF OUR FATHERS

The topic of dreams and God’s communication through them is significant in the Bible, and even Jesus’ earthly stepfather (whose namesake is that famous Genesis dreamer) hears from God about the coming Messiah through his dreams. This series will explore the impact of dreams on the people of Israel and the advancement of God's kingdom on earth.

The next generations

In this season of Lent, we are in a series on “The Next Generations” - the lives of Isaac & Rebekah and of Jacob, Leah & Rachel.  These three generations - Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - are unique in the story of Scripture, and exploring passing of the covenant to Isaac and Jacob opens up a critical portion of God’s story.

The covenant couple

We look more at Abram and Sarai, the first family of Israel, and Yahweh’s call on their life. They are chosen - not deserving - and the covenant that God initiates in their life will be the beginning of God’s plan of salvation.

A FRESH START

After the flood, there is an opportunity for God’s world to experience a fresh start. The coming of Jesus and the season of Advent offer that same opportunity - one of new beginnings.

grounded

We leave the Garden and move to the next generation - Cain and Abel - where the family conflict escalates. Genesis 4 tells the story of the first murder and begins a theme from Genesis 4-8 focusing on the curse on the ground.

in the beginning

Genesis is the foundational book of God’s story; there’s a reason we begin with the beginning! Scripture begins with these stories because they make sense of everything that comes later; even and especially Jesus.
